Melbourne indie-soul outfit Saskwatch follow up the massive success of single “December Nights”, with the announcement of new track “Then There’s You”, the second single off their fourth studio album ‘Manual Override’ – out August 4. The 6-piece will also be performing at two very special album preview shows in Melbourne and Sydney in July to give fans a sneak peek of the new album in a live and intimate setting.
Releasing their third studio album almost 2 years ago, Saskwatch have never been one to shy away from the unconventional. After spending their first two albums Leave It All Behind (2012) and Nose Dive (2014) establishing themselves and their sound, 2015’s Sorry I Let It Come Between Us took listeners on another trajectory entirely. More vulnerable, honest, and simple, the album revealed a depth of emotion and heartache not previously associated with their music, and lead the way to a brand new Saskwatch featured on ‘Manual Override’ (August 4, 2017) – comfortable in the malleability of their sound, and ready to show you a side of their music you have never seen before.
Where “December Nights” was bold, bright, and in your face, new single “Then There’s You” brings it back a notch, offering up a swirling, woozy, honest track about keeping it together when things are falling apart.
“Then There’s You is a song for the bumps in the road. It’s about having the courage to keep the faith when things start to fall apart. Nkechi’s vocal is sublime & honest, and paired with Rob’s initial production direction from our early album demos up in the Byron Bay Hinterland really shaped the sound of the song (and the album).” – Liam McGorry (guitar/keys)
Premiering on Interview Magazine, the video for “Then There’s You” captures the intimacy of the lyrics beautifully through an abstract, absurd and alien-like lens. Directed by Madeline Kelly, the clip features Nkechi and actor Zeppelin as they float in a milk bath surrounded by leaves and foliage. The clip deliberately moves away from a typical love story, with the focus instead being aimed at creating a series of visual emotions and impressions that tap into the whirlwind of confusing dreamlike aftermath of a breaking relationship.
“Saskwatch has always been about taking risks and pushing ourselves in new directions, so as much as it freaked me out to jump into a milk pool naked in front of complete strangers I was also excited to have this new experience. Acting is really not my strong point so it was great to have someone on set that knew what they were doing and Zeppelin (my male counterpart) took everything in his stride and made it look effortless.” – Nkechi Anele (vocals)
‘Manual Override’ will be released August 4 on brand new label Grow Yourself Up, a new business by manager Greg Carey, who also manages The Rubens & Urthboy.
